Suppressions and how they work

Suppressions are used for preventing names of individuals from being included in count requests. Suppressions are used for previous orders, internal do-not-solicit lists, existing customers, or self-regulatory privacy obligations as outlined by the Direct Marketing Association.  all of these options might be switched on for your account. Please contact Client Services if you don’t have an option available that you need.

Address Suppression Level and Additional Suppression Options

The address suppression level option is used to determine how the records will be suppressed.

  • Individual (First Name, Last Name and Address): no records with the same name and address as records from suppressed orders will be included in the search results
  • Household (Last Name and Address): no records with the same household as records from suppressed orders will be included in the search results, regardless of the names
  • Address (Address only): no records in the same household as records from suppressed orders will be included in the search results, regardless of the names

Additional Suppression Options

  • Phone number suppressions – remove records with matching phone numbers, regardless of name or address
  • Social security number suppressions
  • Suppress orders for this search type only
  • Include suppression analysis

Suppress (Name of Marketer)

Use this option to select all orders from only the marketer chosen in the “General” section of the current search from the chosen time period. The available time periods are in the drop down selection field are:

  • 15 days, 30 days through 180 days in thirty day increments
  • 7 Months to 12 Months in one month increments (applies to external suppressions only)

Note: To enable a suppression option on a search, you must check the appropriate checkbox located next to the suppression option.

Suppress (Name of Marketer)

Suppress other marketer

Use this option to select one or more marketers other than the one from the current search you are building that are associated with your main account. This will suppress all records ordered by the selected marketer(s) within the chosen time frame. The available time periods are in the drop down selection field are:

  • 15 days, 30 days through 180 days in thirty day increments
  • 7 Months to 12 Months in one month increments (applies to external suppressions only)

Note: To enable a suppression option on a search, you must check the appropriate checkbox located next to the suppression option.

Suppress by order

This option allows you to suppress orders by order id or PO number. To find the order you want to suppress, enter its order id or PO number or parts of its order id or PO number in the Search field and click on the Search button. To find all orders that can be suppressed, leave the Search field blank and click the Search button. The selection box next to the Search field allows you to filter orders by their type: regular sales orders, external suppressions or netdown orders.

To display a list of available orders, click the Search button.

Use this option to select every order from a given time period to be included for suppression. The available lengths of time are:

You may exclude specific orders from a range of suppressed orders by inputting the PO Number in this field

Exclude Wildcard PO

You may exclude PO numbers by entering a wildcard combination.  The wildcard values entered will only be matched at the beginning of a PO number.  For example, you wish to exclude any PO Number that begins with 187, you would input 187* into the field.
